    Division In The Church
What would the Apostle Paul say about the divisions that are happening today in the Church? 1. Division is caused by those who do not grow up in the faith but remain spiritually immature.

Paul’s Solution: 1) Grow up in knowledge. 2) Grow up in our reverence in worship.

    2. Division is caused by those who follow the word of men rather than the word of God.
Paul’s Solution: 1) Settle disputes and disagreements on the authority of scripture alone. - this means having a high view of scripture. - this means seeing scripture as sufficient.

    3. Division is caused by being ignorant of how unrepentant sin destroys a church or a person. Paul’s Solution: 1) Be a church that deals redemptively with sin by calling all to repent and be forgiven, and by removing those who refuse repentance. 2) Preach Christ as the Passover Lamb, slain for the forgiveness of our sins.

    4. Some division is necessary because there are unbelievers in the Church. Paul’s Solution: 1) Some divisions in the Church are unavoidable. - there MUST be some factions in the church because there are goats within the sheep.

    5. Division is caused by not understanding what unites us. Paul’s Solution: 1) It is our union with Christ that unites us. - The true Church is divided as much as Christ is divided. 2) We are to regard one another as we regard Christ, and not according to the flesh."

A New Exodus Led by A New Moses Who mediates A New Covenant To bring about A New Creation A New Exodus (A Second Exodus) An Exodus that is: - Individual rather than collective. - For people from all nations, not only Jews by birth. - For those with the faith of Abraham, not his blood. - Not from bondage of Egypt, but bondage to sin. - Not from the dominion of Pharaoh, but to Satan. - Not from exile in Egypt, but exile in this present world. - Immediate, yet progressive, and also ultimate. Led by A New Moses Jesus Christ: The Greater Israel - Jesus came to be a perfect representative of His people,...to do everything that they failed to do,...in order to accomplish “THE EXODUS” on their behalf. Who mediates A New Covenant A covenant that is: - Unconditional (dependent on God alone) - Perfect in its removal of sin - Christ powered (by the Spirit) - Eternally permanent To bring about A New Creation Not just a resurrection

Ten Thoughts About The Crossing Of The Sea 1. Nothing is impossible for the LORD. 2. Let us never think that it is too late, and that God will not prevail or keep His promises. 3. This entire drama was designed and orchestrated by the LORD - For His glory and the salvation of His people. 4. Israel SAW this and yet COULD NOT believe. - We only hear/read, and yet we can believe. 1. This shows the power of the New Covenant. 2. This shows the power of the word of God. 5. Jesus Christ is pictured in so many different ways in the Passover and Crossing, - it demonstrates that all of scripture is about Him. 6. Many believers need to reform their view of sin’s bondage and Satan’s power in their lives. 7. The unbelief of the Israelites is stunning when you consider that God saved them in spite of it. 8. We may need to develop a more a militant view of God dealing with and destroying His enemies. 9. Death will eventually separate Israel from Egypt. - or wheat/tares; sheep/goats; wheat/chaff 10. This is really a picture of Christ’s resurrection. - It is through the gift of imputation that God credits us for being with Him as He died and lived again.

Trusting God means...Being Separated by Christ from the World Five Points of Separation 1. Separation of Revelation - The World without God is in darkness...and is foolish and futile in their thinking. - The people of God were separated from the world by the light of God’s revelation. - Trusting God means...We STOP trusting the “wisdom” of the world. 2. Separation of Worship - The World without God...is foolish and futile because...they worship other gods. - The two camps were illuminated or darkened according to the gods they worshipped. - Trusting God means...We STOP trusting in the world’s gods 3. Separation of Receiving Mercy - The World is under the judgment of God, and is being given over to even greater evil. - The difference between the two camps was not in the goodness of the people, but whether God offered mercy, or if He hardened. - Trusting God means...We trust in His mercy to keep us from evil. 4. Separation of Christ Himself - Between the world and the Church...Christ has stationed Himself. - The people of God were separated from the world by Christ Himself. - Trusting God means...We trust in Christ as our Defender. 5. Separation of Ultimate Victory - The world has been conquered by...Christ and His Church. - The people of God were separated from the world by the eternal victory won by Christ. - Trusting God means...We trust that He has overcome the world.

Learning to Trust God Completely 1. We must LEARN to trust God. - God is teaching His people to trust Him. 1a. We learn that He is faithful and keeps His word - Titus 1:2, Heb. 6:18, Num. 23:19, Ps. 89:34 1b. We learn that He has the power to keep His word. - Is. 14:24-27, Matt. 19:26, Job 42:2, Is. 46:9-11 1c. We learn that He has all wisdom, so His plan is always best. - Rom. 11:33-36, Is. 40:13-14, Is. 55:6-11 1d. We learn that He loves His children and will never leave them or forsake them. - Matt. 28:20, Heb. 13:5, Deut. 31:6, Joshua 1:5 1e. We learn that death with Christ is much better than life without Him. - Ps. 73:25-26, Ps. 84:10-11, Ps. 63:3, Phil. 3:7-11 2. We must learn to trust God IN ALL THINGS. - God purposely guides His people into the worst possible position, so that He alone can save them. 3. We must learn to trust that God is doing something larger than we can see or imagine. - God is doing many ‘big things’ through their predicament. - He is setting a trap for Pharaoh in order to destroy Him. - He is making so His people can proceed without fear. - He is protecting His firstborn Son (the Seed of the woman). - He is protecting the entire Gospel that will save many. - He is directing a drama for His future Church to read about and thereby produce faith in them. - He is casting a foreshadow of the cross and resurrection. - He is doing mighty work in order to produce fear in the hearts of the future enemies of Israel. - He is gaining glory for Himself before all the earth. 4. We must learn that this is the pattern of this ‘now-but-not-yet’ Kingdom...Victory comes out of defeat. - Life comes out of death; - New comes out of old; - Blessing comes out of cursing; 5. We must learn that having to trust God is the very place where He wants us to be, because our faith in Him honors Him. - God is engineering the entire ‘Exodus’ for His own glory.

Five Areas of Learning from the OT: 1. Learn the historical narrative. 2. See each passage in light of the “grand story of redemption”. 3. Learn about the greatness of our God. 4. Learn faith lessons from men of faith (or from men of no faith). 5. Types and Shadows of the Gospel and NT doctrines. Our Attitude While Reading Scripture Should be: 1. The Scriptures are the Father's means of the Spirit revealing Jesus to you so you can know God. 2. Since both the Bible and Jesus are the Father’s communication to you, believe and receive them as such. 3. Whenever the Bible is read, taught, or preached, you should listen to it as you would listen to Jesus. 4. Rely on the Holy Spirit to understand the Bible so that you can understand Jesus. 5. Recognize that the Spirit of God brought both the incarnated Word and the inscripturated Word to the world. 6. You should regard both the Scriptures and Jesus as holy. 7. However, you should always treat the Bible as the means and Christ as the end.

    Exodus 12-13 – The Passover
The Passover Teaches About The Gospel 1. The ACTUAL blood of the Lamb saved them. - Saving faith looks to an ACTUAL Savior. - It was not the strength of their faith that saved them. It was the object of their faith – the blood. - Therefore,... We do not strengthen our faith by focusing on it... We strengthen our faith by focusing on Christ. 2. We are to eat (believe) the Lamb with urgency; - Quickly obeying what the Lord reveals is His top priority. 3. We are to take removing leaven (sin) seriously. - Imputed righteousness of Christ in me. - Practical righteous of sanctification The LORD is very interested in your sanctification: - because it glorifies Him. - because it makes you like Christ. - because it prepares you for the future plans He has for you, both in this life and the next. - Heb. 11:35; 2 Cor. 4:17; Matt. 25:21; Luke 19:17; Gal. 6:9; 1 Cor. 6:3 4. We are to remember and celebrate God’s deliverance. - Forgetting what God has done leads to idolatry. - Forgetting that we have been saved, leads to forgetting our Savior. - Forgetting that we’ve been forgiven of sin, leads to sin (ungratefulness, self-centeredness, etc.) - Remembering what Christ has done for us, produces love, gratefulness, righteousness, etc. 5. There are only Two major differences between Israel and Egypt: A. Israel received the revelation from God that brought about their salvation. B. Israel was the covenanted people of God. - Circumcision separated them from Egypt. - Real circumcision is circumcision of the heart - it is meant to be spiritual not physical.

    Easter
The Resurrection of Christ through the lens of the crossing of the Red Sea 1. The crossing separated Moses from all the people. - The resurrection separates Christ from all creation. 2. The crossing delivered from death and brought new life. - The resurrection delivers from death and brings new life. 3. The crossing separated them from slavery to Egypt. - The resurrection separates us from slavery to sin. 4. The crossing separated Israelites from the Egyptians. - The resurrection separates the Church from the world.

The First to go THROUGH death -Firstborn as a position of blessing - the second Adam has gained the blessing the first Adam lost. -Firstborn substitute - Passover Lamb - Christ the perfect substitute who redeems the firstborn of Israel. -FIRSTborn – the first of many from the dead. - Feast of Firstfruits -FirstBORN – He turns the tomb into a womb.

A Review of the First Six Plagues
    Reminders:
    - All ten plagues were in rapid succession.
    - The Israelites were uninvolved.
    - God has hardened Pharaoh’s heart.
    - God ‘marvelously separated’ His people.
    - Pharaoh is a type of Satan.
    - The Exodus is a picture of the gospel.
    - God is glorified in showing mercy, but also in bringing judgement.

Six Impressive Truths from the Plagues
    1. Pharaoh’s hard heart - oh, how we need the mercy of God so that our sin will not harden us.
    2. Pharaoh’s false repentance - true repentance has nothing to appeal to except the mercy of God.
    3. The Israelite’s non-involvement - we should stand in awe of all God has done for us, without us.
    4. The LORD separating His people - the LORD has ‘marvelously separated’ us from judgement.
    5. The sheer power of God - He can use anything to bring utter destruction to a nation/people.
    6. The oppression of Satan against God’s people - Christ has secured a way out of sin’s slavery.

    Truths of a Fear-Proof Worldview
    Lie #1:
    I am alone, unseen, unassisted;
and what I do/say for Christ is meaningless.

    Truth #1:
Everything hidden will come into the light,
and those “in Christ” will be vindicated.

    Lie #2:
The seen is more powerful than the unseen.
The body is more important than the soul.
The temporary is more valuable than the eternal.

    Truth #2:
Those who have a faith-filled fear of God,
    that produces obedience…
    need fear nothing else.

    Lie #3:
I am insignificant to a far-off, invisible God.

    Truth #3:
God’s care for you is as a Father who knows how to love perfectly.

    Lie #4:
Even if God cares for me, He is not actually able to keep me from harm.

    Truth #4:
There is not one tiny corner of creation that is not cared for and controlled by my Father.

...God will bring justice to every situation.
...we will someday see what is now hidden.
...the words we speak for Christ that are rejected today, will someday be acknowledged by all.
