Exodus 16 – Bread to Eat 2

God’s Provision for His People

Four Things To Remember

1. There is a connection between Christ and bread.
– He was born in Bethlehem (house of bread).
– He multiplied bread to feed many in the wilderness.
– He called Himself the Bread of Life (John 6:35).
– He was recognized when He broke bread (Luke 24:30-31).
– When He gave bread to Judas; Satan entered him.
– His written Word is also compared to “bread”.
– He is the Bread that unites all of God’s children into one loaf/body.

2. How important it is for us to hearken to God’s word.
– They treated the words of God with disregard.
– They did not pay attention to the precise details.
– They could not simply listen/obey God without:
– first knowing the “why” behind it.
– first relying on their own experience.
– They proved by this that they did not really believe.
God’s people are marked by their faith in what He says.

3. There remains a Sabbath rest for us.
– We rest from being slaves to sin.
– We rest from our work to satisfy God’s commands.
– We set aside a day a week to worship and fellowship.
– We have an eternal “rest”.
– a promise of an eternal “Promised Land”.
Jesus Christ is our Sabbath Rest.

4. The longsuffering mercy of God toward His people.
