Why Did Jesus Perform Miracles?
To show that He was God.
To show He was the Messiah.
To authenticate His teaching.
To show His compassion.
To briefly restore God’s perfect order; or point to God’s future new order.
So that, by reading about them, we can have saving faith.
Jesus Turned the Water into Wine
To reveal the New Covenant
– from water of purification to the wine of the New Covenant
– the wine is the New Covenant
– the best is saved for last
To reveal His power of conversion
– from the ordinary to extraordinary; from death to life
– the wine is new life in Christ through the Spirit
– the best is saved for last
To reveal God’s ultimate restoration of all things
– Jesus’ miracles restored God’s perfect order
– the wine is the grace of God and the joy of restoration
– the best is saved for last
